If I take a picture of the background on my webcam, How do I replace it with a picture when I'm in the loop?

I want to be able take a still shot of my room with my camera, then set it to be transparent (a bit like Chroma Key, but without requiring a screen) then I'd be able to choose a background image, so when I'm on the ball, I'm super-imposed on this image! Is this possible?
